Kenai Peninsula gardening classes offered

Kenai Peninsula Cooperative Extension Service agent Casey Matney will teach a series of 11 gardening classes that outline the steps to getting your garden ready.

The free classes will be held online via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, from March 23 to June 1.

Topics include seed starting, soil testing, raised beds, planting potatoes, hardening off seedlings and transplanting them, and composting.

Registration closed for each class. 

March 23 — Seed starting from scratch
March 30 — Large seed starts, corn, pumpkins and potting soil
April 6 — Soil testing and interpretation for garden and farms
April 13 — Working with fertilizers and compost
April 20 — Warming things up with plastic, glass and plastic mulch
April 27 — Raised rows, raised beds and how to make them
May 4 — Herb gardening, inside and out
May 11 — Seeding directly into the garden
May 18 — Planting potatoes
May 25 — Hardening plants and transplanting to the garden
June 1 — Composting – no time to waste
