Kristin O’Brien, professor in the Institute of Arctic Biology and Department of Biology and Wildlife, has been invited to serve on the Advisory Committee (AC) for Polar Programs at NSF. The AC provides guidance on polar research, education, logistics, infrastructure, and other related topics.

Kristin welcomes input on issues related to polar science that she might bring forward to OPP through her work on the AC. The next meeting of the AC will be held virtually via Zoom on Sept. 15-16 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Polar researchers are welcome and encouraged to attend, but will need to register. Registration closed for this webinar.

The preliminary agenda can be found here. Some of the topics to be discussed this fall include results from the U.S. Antarctic Program’s Sexual Assault and Harassment Needs Assessment, a report from the OPP subcommittee on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and updates on COVID-19 and upcoming field seasons.
