Legislative citation recognizes Rasmuson Library

The Rasmuson Library will host a brief ceremony on Friday, Nov. 5, to receive a citation from the Alaska Legislature in honor of its 50th anniversary.

Rep. Bart LeBon will present the citation at 11 a.m. The Legislature honored the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ library with the citation in April during its previous session.

The library marked its 50th anniversary in 2020. After evolving through the years with various locations at Main Hall, Signers’ Hall and the Bunnell Building, the Rasmuson Library was dedicated on May 3, 1970, with several hundred thousand volumes. Subsequent additions included the Alaska and Polar Regions special collections and the Alaska Film Archives.

More than 150,000 visitors visit the Rasmuson Library each year to access its collections and services, according to the citation.
