Maddalena brings home silver for Team USA
CHÂTEAUROUX, France - While the clock changed from Thursday, Aug. 1 to Friday, Aug. 2 in Fairbanks, Alaska, Sagen Maddalena became the third Alaska Nanooks rifle alumni to earn an Olympic medal, joining Matt Emmons and Jamie (Beyerle) Gray. Her silver medal in the Women's 50m 3P Final was the fifth medal earned by the trio of rifle alum.

Before shooting in the final, Maddalena qualified with an Olympic Qualification Record
score of 593 in the 50m 3P. Her 593 - 45x, put her at the top of the list entering
the final where she fired a 463.0 final score. To open up the final competition, Maddalena
shot a 155.9 in kneeling, beginning in fourth place. Following prone, she held the
top-spot with a 314.0 score before moving back to fourth with a 412.9 after standing.
This advanced her into stage two for the elimination rounds where she staved off elimination
until the final shot. Maddalena guaranteed herself a medal with a 443.0 score after
her first two elimination shots. She'd eventually advance to the final two after defeating
bronze medalist Qiongyue Zhang of China in a shootout.
On her final shot, Maddalena fired a 10.1 to earn her final score of 463.0. Chiara Leone of Switzerland claimed gold with a score of 464.4, firing a 10.8 in her final shot of the final.
The silver medal was the first-ever Olympic medal for Maddalena in her second-ever Olympics appearance.
