GI Director Robert McCoy kicks off virtual 2022 Science for Alaska Lecture Series
Jan. 25, 2022
The UAF Geophysical Institute presents the virtual 2022 Science for Alaska Lecture Series.
Tune in at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays to learn about exciting science from Arctic Ocean exploration, retreating coastal glaciers, DNA mystery solving, benefits of GPS, the workings of the Alaska Satellite Facility and more.
Registration is closed or watch live from the UAF or GI Facebook pages.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, Geophysical Institute Director Robert McCoy will present “Science on the Horizon: The Geophysical Institute at 75 years.”
Alaska is an amazing natural laboratory for scientists to study geophysical processes to gain an understanding of how the Earth works. For 75 years, researchers at the Geophysical Institute have been observing and modeling the aurora; volcanoes; earthquakes; snow, ice and permafrost; atmospheric sciences; and tectonics. With manned aircraft, unmanned aircraft, radar, sounding rockets, and satellites, GI researchers study natural phenomena across the state and around the world. This talk will give a summary of ongoing research and operational programs led by scientists at the GI.
For more information, visit Science for Alaska Lecture Series website or the Facebook event page.
Talks are free and for the public. All ages are encouraged to attend.
