Soos passed away in August 2021. He was a full-time faculty member in creative writing from 1986-2004, and continued to contribute to the English Department after his retirement by teaching and directing the theses of several MFA students.
He authored two short story collections that were published in his life, "Unified Field Theory" and "Early Yet," and a third, "The Getting Place," that was published posthumously in January 2022. He also authored two essay collections,
"Unpleasantries" and "Bamboo Fly Rod Suite." He collaborated with visual artists including Kesler Woodward and his spouse Margo
Klass, with whom he published "Double Moon," a hybrid collection of artwork and lyric prose. A past Alaska State Writer Laureate
and winner of the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction, Soos was a beloved friend
and mentor to many.
