Nanook Navigator and Student Success Spotlight: Krista Sinnok
The Nanook Navigator and Student Success spotlight for March is Krista Sinnok. Krista is an academic advisor and program coordinator at the School of Education.
Why are you passionate about UAF students and their success?
UAF students are amazing! They are passionate about Alaska, and want the best for their communities. Helping our students be successful helps all of Alaska flourish.
Favorite part about being an advisor?
I have the special task of helping future teachers earn their degrees and gain experience in their fields. The best part is seeing those students out in the community, pursuing their dreams!
What is your favorite feature in Nanook Navigator?
The texting feature is really helpful. Students are busy, and getting reminders and quick information into their hands (or directly onto their phones, in this case) is a powerful tool.
How long have you been utilizing Nanook Navigator?
I started training in Nanook Navigator when I got hired by UAF in the fall of 2019. I have been learning about the features through trainings and trying them out with my students since the beginning of my advising career.
Tips, advice, or ideas to support other Nanook Navigator users or student success practices?
I recommend that people dive in and try a new feature about once per semester. There’s so many ways to use this tool, and that can seem overwhelming. Once you start using it, you’ll find what works best for you!
