North Campus pile burn project

The Bureau of Land Management, Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, Alaska Fire Science Consortium, and Facilities Services are coordinating a project to burn debris piles and conduct hazard tree clearing on the North Campus. The purpose of this project is to reduce fuels and take down dead/leaning trees in and around the burn scar of the 2021 Yankovich Road Fire. This area is now a summer Wildfire Walk, and will have many visitors walking in the burn area both this summer and into the future. Burning will occur between April 1 and the end of snow-melt, and may take more than one entry. Ignition will occur after 10 a.m. and piles will be extinguished by dusk and monitored for 48 hours.
