Pesticide applicator training classes scheduled for January, April

A three-day certified pesticide applicator training course is scheduled for Jan. 31-Feb. 2, with a second course planned for April 25-27. The University Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will teach the classes via Zoom. Each class will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be available statewide.

The state of Alaska requires certification for anyone who purchases, uses or sells restricted-use pesticides. Anyone who acts as a pesticide consultant, engages in the commercial or contract use of pesticides, or supervises pesticide use at a public location also must be certified.

A $75 fee includes study materials. Register for each course at http://bit.ly/PSEPtraining. Participants are encouraged to become familiar with the materials and required math beforehand.

Materials are available by appointment at Extension offices in Anchorage, Palmer, Soldotna, Fairbanks and Delta Junction. They will be mailed to individuals in other communities. To make an appointment, contact Sage Bertrand at sjbertrand@alaska.edu in Anchorage; Theresa Isaac in Palmer at tmisaac@alaska.edu; Alicia Glessing in Soldotna at akglessing@alaska.edu; Ronda Boswell in Fairbanks at rlboswell@alaska.edu; or Phil Kaspari, pnkaspari@alaska.edu, in Delta Junction.

The deadline to register for the January class is Jan. 24. The deadline for the April class is April 18.

Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made five business days in advance to Phil Kaspari at 907-895-4215 or pnkaspari@alaska.edu. For more information, contact Kaspari.
