Presentation to discuss resurrecting the woolly mammoth

Technology startup company Colossal Biosciences and national organization The Explorer's Club will host a presentation about the company's work toward resurrecting the woolly mammoth. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place Monday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. in the engineering building atrium and Schaible Auditorium.

A reception will begin at 6 p.m. in the engineering building atrium. A presentation and discussion will follow at 7 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium, and will focus on how, why and whether DNA technology should be used resurrect the woolly mammoth, an extinct animal that last lived in Alaska thousands of years ago.

Colossal Biosciences is a private company that plans to use DNA recovered from mammoths to generate a hybrid mammoth-elephant species that could inhabit the Arctic. The event is an opportunity for Alaskans to hear about the plan and provide feedback.
