Safety resources help UAF be more prepared
Nov. 18, 2021
As recent events have unfolded nationally and locally, UAF Police Chief Kathy Catron and campus emergency management leaders are offering some community safety and support resources.
In recent weeks, Brown, Columbia and Cornell universities have experienced multiple unfounded campus bomb threats. The recent shooting at a Fairbanks grocery store shows that our small Alaska community is not so far removed from the national headlines.
These incidents are a reminder of the importance of being prepared to act at a moment’s notice and that all employees have resources to improve their response in the event something of this nature were to occur. The UAF Police Department has prepared three documents to help the UAF community be more prepared:
- Active violence incidents information
- Bomb threats and suspicious packages information
- Bomb threat checklist (to keep near your phone)
Members of the UAF community are encouraged to review the materials. Be safe and stay alert; a vital step in emergency preparedness is education.
