Seeking participants in study of domestic groundwater wells

Nov. 8, 2021

UAF researchers are seeking samples of water from domestic wells for a study of groundwater chemistry. The research will focus on nitrate in drinking water of the Fairbanks region and is supported by the Biomedical Learning and Student Training program at UAF. Historical data from Ester, Goldstream Valley, Farmers Loop and the Steese corridor suggest these neighborhoods as areas of particular interest.

Drinking water containing more nitrate than the Environmental Protection Agency’s limit can affect the health of infants and pregnant people. This study will map nitrate in household well water used for drinking and identify the sources of nitrate in groundwater.
