An indoor hydroponic setup is an easy and convenient way to grow plants, such as these salad greens and herbs, in the winter.

Learn the basics of growing plants indoors with a hydroponic system in a free statewide webinar, “Indoor Plants 101 for Hydroponic Home Growers,” offered by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.

Schwing, leader of the Urban Agriculture Program at the Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District, will explain the general principles behind growing plants in a hydroponic system, which uses water instead of soil as a growing medium. She will discuss the equipment and space required to get started and how to choose the right hydroponics system for your home. She’ll also provide supply lists and give tips for success.

The webinar will be Wednesday, Jan. 29, from noon-1 p.m. Registration is required via Zoom using the online form.

The session will be recorded and sent out to all registrants.
