Sutton appointed UAF vice provost and accreditation liaison officer
University of Alaska Fairbanks Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Anupma Prakash, has appointed Trent Sutton as the new vice provost and accreditation liaison officer. In his new role, Sutton will also be serving as the dean of General Studies and the director of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activities.
Sutton has a long history with UAF. He started as a fisheries faculty in 2006, received tenure in 2008, and was promoted to professor in 2011. He held the position of associate dean for the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and URSA director since 2016. He serves as program chair for retention and the student success program, and he is a member of the accreditation team overseeing program reviews at UAF.
“Dr. Sutton’s institutional knowledge, passion for equity in student success, and engagement with UAF’s accreditation efforts are great assets that make him an excellent fit for this important role,” Prakash said.
“I am excited for the opportunity to continue to promote and enhance student success at UAF, which includes supporting staff and faculty development as well as complementary processes that are necessary to create a positive, equitable, and inclusive culture of academic excellence for all university stakeholders,” Sutton said.
Sutton was selected from a pool of applicants after a UA-wide search. He will be stepping into the position after Vice Provost Fitts retires at the end of June 2023.
