Over the course of 49 hours, 748 donors contributed $661,709 in support of students and programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks during the university’s second annual Giving Day event.

The crowdfunding-style philanthropy event, which ran from 10 p.m. on Nov. 8 through 11 p.m. on Nov. 10, drew donors from 38 states and eight countries. Their gifts helped unlock 47 challenge and match pledges from businesses and individuals who stepped up to multiply donations during UA Giving Day. Alumni made up 40% of Giving Day donors.

“We are grateful to our employees, students, alumni and friends who came together to make this year’s Giving Day a success,” said UAF Chancellor Dan White. “The response truly illustrates the strength of our Nanook community and will help advance education and discovery throughout UAF.”

The total surpassed last year’s Giving Day proceeds by 59%, and will support a wide variety of programs, including merit- and need-based scholarships for UAF students, scientific research, academic programs and Alaska Nanooks athletics.
