UAF graduate students nominated for awards at the Western Association of Graduate Schools

Three UAF graduate students: LJ Evans, Jaimy Schwarber, and Chinmay Shah, have been nominated for Western Association of Graduate Schools awards.

LJ is nominated for the WAGS Proquest award for a distinguished Master's degree in the visual arts. The nomination is based on her thesis work "Botanicals" where she employed novel scanning techniques to image plants and flowers and explore the fragility and transience of these objects.

Jaimy is nominated for the WAGS Proquest award for a distinguished Master's degree in STEM. The nomination is based on her thesis work "Landslides in the Fairbanks North Star Borough" where she employed novel mapping techniques to characterize landslides and understand their behavior and associated risks to life and property.

Chinmay is nominated for the WAGS Proquest award for innovation in technology. The nomination is based on his dissertation work "Optimization and Forecasting Algorithms for Distribution Networks" where he employed novel artificial intelligence and blockchain techniques to optimize the operation of electrical grids and networks that include a mixture of renewable energy sources.

The winning students will receive a $1,000 prize, certificate, and attend the WAGS meeting in Portland, Oregon in March 2023.
