Community members can explore an ever-expanding array of health careers and educational opportunities at the 13th annual Alaska Interior Medical Education Summit.
The summit will feature demonstrations, panel discussions and hands-on activities to introduce attendees to various health care careers and education options. It will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Murie Building at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Health care professionals, organizations and vendors from across the United States are expected to participate. Attendees will be able to explore a full range of health care careers. Doctors, nurses, phlebotomists, veterinarians, dental technicians, UAF biomedical researchers and other medical professionals will answer questions and conduct activities. There will also be information and resources about a variety of educational opportunities and funding options.
Amy Wald, an undergraduate student advisor for UAF, said the event serves not only college students looking at becoming doctors but also a much wider group in the community.
“It’s for high school and college students, as well as people looking for opportunities that span the full range of health options — from medical biller to medical researcher,” Wald said. “There should be something for everyone at AIMES.”
The event is free to the public. Preregistration is required. To register online or to explore last year’s program topics, visit the AIMES website.
