UAF teams win public relations awards

Oct. 8, 2021

Two UAF units won awards for their communication work from the Alaska chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, announced during an online ceremony Sept. 29. Aurora Awards categories are judged based on criteria demonstrating comprehensive public relations campaigns that successfully communicate messages using a variety of tools, programs and components.

University Relations earned first place in the crisis communications category for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The entry showcased the breadth of outreach that included leadership messages, a COVID-19 resource website, news releases, internal communications, campus signage, and design and photography.

The College of Business and Security Management marketing team earned third place in the category “Events and Observances (seven or fewer days).” Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Arctic Innovation Competition changed from a one-day, in-person event to a multiday virtual event, with four evenings of semifinals and a 90-minute finals and award ceremony.

The PRSA Aurora Awards annually recognize the best public relations work in Alaska.
