Week’s events: Arts talk, Dr. Zink, voting lecture, jazz music

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of July 31-Aug. 6:

  • On Monday, Aug. 1, the Tall Timbers interview series will feature a conversation with community arts leader June Rogers. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 2, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Dr. Anne Zink, Alaska’s chief medical officer, discussing “Alaska’s Health Scorecard: Moving Toward a Healthier Alaska,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 3, the Discover Alaska lecture series will host journalist and historian Dermot Cole, on “Ranked Choice Voting: Will it Work for Alaska?” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 4, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
