Week’s events: Jim Sampson, vein health, tsunami preparedness, acoustic tunes

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening next week: 

  • On Monday, June 20, the Tall Timbers interview series will offer a conversation with former Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor and labor leader Jim Sampson. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility.
  • On Tuesday, June 21, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Dr. Don Ives discussing “Varicose Veins: How Treatment Can Keep You Healthy and Active,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 22, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Elena Suleimani, research analyst at the Alaska Earthquake Center, on “Tsunamis in Alaska: Are We Ready for the Next Big One?” at 7 p.m. at the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 23, the Music in the Garden concert series will host an evening of acoustic Americana with Jameson Effect at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
