Week’s events: John Manthei, weight medications, nutrition, jazz

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. 

Summer Sessions is on hiatus during the week of July 4th. Here’s what’s happening during the week of July 8-14:

  • On Monday, July 8, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series honors John Manthei, woodsman, cabinetmaker and founding member of the Folk School. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, July 9, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Russ Pierce, family medicine physician, with a presentation on “Transformative Care and Weight Wellness: The Role of Medications.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, July 10, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Andrea Bersamin, professor of nutrition at the Institute of Arctic Biology, discussing “Food, Nutrition and Health in Alaska.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, July 11, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature WT Effington at 6 p.m. and the Badger Street Jazz Band at 7 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
