Week’s events: Mary Nordale, heart health lecture, film talk, bluegrass

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of Aug. 7-13:

  • On Monday, Aug. 8, the Tall Timbers interview series will feature a conversation with prominent Fairbanks attorney Mary Nordale. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 9, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature nurse manager Ivy Hollinrake discussing “Resuming Normal Activity After a Heart Scare,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 10, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Lenny Kamerling, professor of film emeritus at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, discussing “From Nanook to Atanarjuat: The Evolution of Recording Culture in the North,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 11, the Music in the Garden concert series will host an evening of bluegrass standard with the E.T. Barnette String Band starting at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
