Week’s events: Mary Shields, sleep science, space weather, eclectic music

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening the week of June 26-July 2:

  • On Monday, June 27, the Tall Timbers interview series will include a conversation with musher and adventurer Mary Shields. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility.
  • On Tuesday, June 28, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Dr. Clay Triplehorn discussing “Improving Sleep and Using Novel Technologies,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 29, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Don Hampton, research associate professor of atmospheric and space science, on “Sunny with a Chance of Electron Precipitation: Space Weather and What it Means to You,” at 7 p.m. at the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 30, the Music in the Garden concert series will host Kinky Slinky, a trio with an eclectic playlist, at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
