Week’s events: Shirley Gordon, eye health lecture, air quality talk, bluegrass tunes

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of July 24-30:

  • On Monday, July 25, the Tall Timbers interview series will feature a conversation with prominent Fairbanksan Shirley Gordon. Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility.
  • On Tuesday, July 26, the Healthy Living lecture series will host ophthalmologist Dr. Stan Fuller discussing “The Aging Eye: Common Disorders and Treatments,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, July 27, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature UAF professor of biochemistry Bill Simpson discussing “The Air We Breathe: Indoor Air Quality in Alaska,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, July 28, the Music in the Garden concert series will host an evening of traditional bluegrass with the Dry Cabin String Band starting at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
