Week’s events: Tall Timbers, hearing health, cartooning, bagpipes

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of June 12-18:

  • On Monday, June 12, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series begins with a conversation with Barbara Lando, lifelong learning and aging expert. Lando served as the Alaska director for Elderhostel and was the driving force behind UAF's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She recently helped establish Aging at Home Fairbanks, a membership organization that supports independent living and community engagement for older adults. The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, June 13, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature audiologist Lily Hughes, who will focus on “Making Sense of Hearing Health in 2023” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 14, the Discover Alaska lecture series will host cartoonist Jamie Smith. He will present “Nuggets of Whimsy: Adventures in Northern Cartooning” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 15, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Red Hackle Pipe Band at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
