BIO
Heike Merkel currently serves as a Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC) project manager for hydrokinetic and marine energy federal grant awards.
Merkel joined ACEP in 2013 as a data manager and in the summer of 2017 took on the role of operations manager for the Power Systems Integration program. For three years from 2019 to 2021, she developed and directed the ACEP Utility Student Internship program. During that time, she collaborated with Arizona State University on the development of an Alaska-specific Microgrid Boot Camp training course.
She holds an undergraduate degree in structural engineering and a master's degrees in civil engineering and geophysics (Arctic sea ice) from UAA and UAF, respectively.
