Topic:  Experimental economics can lend critical insight into why we make the decisions that we do. Please come join Professor Castillo as he presents recent work on determinants of charitable giving. Recent field experiments that he has conducted, using Facebook as a solicitation and donation tool, have broader implications for how individuals can be more effectively encouraged to help solve collective problems.

About the Speaker:  Marco Castillo is Associate Professor of Economics and Faculty at the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science at George Mason University. A behavioral economist, Professor Castillo has used laboratory and field experiments to help understand the risk and time preferences of adults and children, fundraising and political campaigning, discrimination, crime, and gender differences in bargaining. His research has appeared in journals such as American Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, Economic Inquiry, Economic Journal, and Journal of Public Economics.
