AHERC at Work: Tanana River Hydrokinetic Test Site Update

Project Description:

AHERC’s Tanana River Hydrokinetic Test Site just outside of Nenana, Alaska, is playing host to a dramatic build out in the summer season of 2014.  The site is being upgraded with office facilities in the form of ATCO trailer units, power has been run to the location and a barge will be onsite to provide a platform for testing hydrokinetic power generators in the Tanana River. This build out effort will support a busy testing season which features AHERC’s prototype debris diversion system and a hydrokinetic device developed by Oceana Energy Company.

Project Update:

Construction continued on AHERC’s barge at Jon’s Machine Shop in Fox this week and AHERC’s mooring buoy, nicknamed by some “Sputnik,” was transported to Nenana for staging.  Shopping continued for supplies and materials while office furniture for the ATCO office units to be installed at the Test Site was gathered from UAF’s Central Receiving surplus warehouse.
