Aleutians Geothermal Research

ACEP researchers George Roe, Dick Benoit and Chris Pike recently completed a study to assess opportunities for low-cost, non-power options for the direct use of hot spring geothermal energy, with an emphasis on district heating.  While the report’s case studies focused on the communities of Adak, Akutan and Atka in the Aleutian Islands, the methodology is presented in a manner that facilitates its application across a wide range of hot spring types, geographic locations, and community infrastructure.  Funding for the effort was provided by the Alaska Energy Authority and the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association.
