AHERC Update
The recent warm interior temperatures have signaled the upcoming start of the 2016 field season for the Alaska Hydrokinetic Energy Research Center (AHERC). The AHERC team is busy getting ready for multiple tests at the Tanana River Test Site in Nenana, Alaska this summer. A New Energy 5kW turbine will be deployed to measure power output characteristics and energy storage techniques to convert river energy into useable electricity.
In addition to testing the 5kW turbine, AHERC will be working with the UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Science (SFOS), and Alaska Department of Fish and Game on an ongoing fish study to determine the hazards of an in river turbine on migrating salmon populations.
