ACEP Biomass Coordinator Tours Volter Biomass CHP System in Sydney

ACEP’s Biomass Coordinator, Amanda Byrd, recently toured a unique installation of two-Volter combined heat and power (CHP) units in Sydney, Australia.

Volter units have been installed in countries around the world including Scotland, Italy, and Finland. However, this unique installation is installed in a 114-year-old heritage listed building (Liberty Place) which is disconnected from the grid, in downtown Sydney.

The two 40 kW combined heat and power units are used in tandem to provide electricity and heat to three joined buildings through the gasification of pine wood chips and in-house produced waste office paper and sawdust pellets.
