Biomass Data Collection Road Trip
ACEP researcher Dr. Daisy Huang was in Delta Junction last week to collect data from the Delta High School wood chip biomass boiler as part of an Alaska Energy Authority study on biomass boiler efficiency and performance in Alaska.
The data at Delta Junction will be the first in the study from a chip-fired boiler. Dr. Huang is excited about this, because the known chip feed rates and boiler firing times allow for more accurate knowledge of the fuel consumption as compared to biomass systems that use cord wood for fuel. The boiler in Delta has also been able to make use of exceptionally clean and uniform wood chips, allowing the system to perform more efficiently, and for Dr. Huang to calculate more accurately the efficiency of the boiler.
