FNSB Mayor to Speak at 2016 Alaska Rural Energy Conference

Alaska Rural Energy Conference
April 26th to 28th, 2016
Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Conference Center
Fairbanks, Alaska

The 2016 Alaska Rural Energy Conference organizing committee is happy to announce that Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Mayor Karl Kassel will address attendees at this year's event.

Recently elected to his current office, Mayor Kassel has lived in Fairbanks since 1975.  Originally from New York, Karl received his B.S. in Physical Education with Teaching Certification from the State University of New York at Brockport.  In his government experience Karl has worked for the FNSB as the Parks Superintendent from 1988 to 2002 and was the Director of Parks and Recreation from 2002 to 2008. He served on the FNSB Assembly since 2010 and was the Presiding Officer from 2013 to 2015.

Mayor Kassel owned his own construction business and has worked as a construction consultant.  One of his most notable projects was the construction of his own 1,800-square-foot home on Murphy Dome, just outside of Fairbanks.  Working with contractor Thorseten Chlupp at Reina LLC, Karl was able to create a highly efficient home that combines passive solar design, renewable technologies, and energy storage to make the variable sunlight in Fairbanks last almost the whole year.
