Congratulations to Winners of Alaska Microgrids Competition

Congratulations to Winners of Alaska Microgrids Competition

In 2016, the Alaska Center for Microgrid Technologies Commercialization Center, made up of ACEP, the Alaska Small Business Development Center, and the Center for Economic Development, coordinated a competition for emerging microgrid technology companies. The competition included Technology Seed (up to 5 awards), and Microgrid Project (up to 2 awards) categories.

As announced at the 2017 Arctic Encounter Symposium in Seattle last week, DONuT and Ocean Renewable Power Company were selected as recipients of the Technology Seed awards, and UniEnergy Technologies was selected as the Microgrid Project grand prize winner.

Competition winners receive technical consultation ("Technology Seed", up to 125 hours) or lab integration/testing ("Microgrid Project", up to 25 days) as a means of helping them move their technologies toward market availability.

All applications were carefully reviewed, and selection of the finalists was based on recommendations from an independent advisory team’s review of the application packages drawing on their expertise in technology, utilities and finance.

Thanks to all of the applicants, and congratulations to those selected for the awards.  Another round of the competition is planned for summer of 2017.  Watch the ACEP website for further information, or contact George Roe (gmroe@alaska.edu, (907) 888-2631).  The Alaska Center for Microgrid Technologies Commercialization is funded by a US EDA i6 Challenge grant and by the State of Alaska through appropriations to the University of Alaska.
