AHERC Developed Ocean Storm Surge Water Level Mounting System to be Deployed in Three Alaska Communities

AHERC, in conjunction with Alaska Ocean Observation Systems (AOOS), has developed a mounting system that allows residents of coastal communities to rapidly deploy water level sensors to measure storm surge and wave height during storms that impact remote coastal communities. The mounting system will be deployed in three coastal villages in Western Alaska; Shishmaref, Shaktoolik and Kivalina which have been subjected to winter storm surges in recent years due to a reduction in shore protecting sea ice.
