Microgrid Competition Featured on KUAC’s Changing Arctic

ACEP’s Microgrid Technology Competition was featured in the KUAC Radio program, Changing Arctic.

The Power Systems Integration (PSI) Lab and Director, Dr. Marc Mueller-Stoffels, were featured in the weekly radio segment that covered stories from the Circumpolar North over the past two years.

Mueller-Stoffels explained that the competition’s goal, aimed at inventors and entrepreneurs, is to assist novel microgrid technologies that can help reduce the cost of electricity generated in remote communities reach commercialization.

Winners of the first round of the competition were announced earlier this year. The second round of competition, valued at $308,000 worth of staff and facility time in the high-tech R&D test bed, is open for expressions of interest.

The competition is being coordinated through the Alaska Center for Microgrid Technologies Commercialization through a federal grant received last year from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and additional funds from the Office of Naval Research.
