Solar Installation to Add Alaska-Specific Irradiance Data
ACEP research engineer Chris Pike recently deployed a new Campbell Scientific weather station in Interior Alaska as part of the ACEP Solar Technology Program’s solar irradiance ground measurement campaign.
Most solar irradiance measurements in Alaska are either modeled based on cloud observations or derived from satellite data and need ground truthing for calibration. ACEP’s long-term goal is to develop an Alaska-specific solar irradiance data set that can be used to produce more accurate solar photovoltaic performance estimates.
