RADIANCE Technical Meeting Provided Data Collection Opportunities

ACEP’s Mariko Shirazi and Jeremy Vandermeer and joint ACEP and Alaska Village Electric Cooperative intern Michelle Wilber traveled to Cordova last week for the RADIANCE project's fourth technical interchange meeting.

Wilber represented RADIANCE partner AVEC, in addition to her ACEP capacity. Vandermeer, as well as Daisy Huang and Anna Bowker via remote link, presented on ACEP's work this quarter related to the baseline system performance. The team participated in overall project discussions with participants from Cordova Electric Association, the Idaho, Sandia and Pacific Northwest national labs, the Alaska Energy Authority, and NRECA concerning cyber-security, resilient microgrid design, microgrid controls, and advanced metering infrastructure.

In addition to participating in the meeting, the group also visited the Cordova Electric Association's Orca diesel power plant with Cordova Mayor and CEC CEO Clay Koplin and CEC Power Production Foreman Nate Cain. The visit was primarily to allow Vandermeer to download SCADA data for comparison with microPMU data, but as a bonus, the team was able to observe the diesel-off operation and watch leaves being cleared remotely from the Humpback Creek Hydro intake.
