Bond Leads Yup’ik Language and Dance Workshop

Bond Leads Yup’ik Language and Dance Workshop

During the First Alaskans Institute Elders & Youth Conference, ACEP’s Baxter Bond led a language and Yup'ik dance workshop.

Bond, a mechanical engineer at ACEP, is also a Yup'ik language instructor and Iñupiaq/Yup'ik dance instructor at UAF. The goal of the workshop was to engage Alaska Native elders and youth in a meaningful conversation about how they should approach language revitalization. The event was attended by about two dozen people. At the end of the workshop, Bond and fellow instructors taught an Iñupiaq and Yup'ik dance to the participants and audience.
