Growing Food With Wood Energy – First in the Webinar Series

Don’t miss the first installment of ACEP’s Arctic Community Energy Webinar Series. “From Biomass to Lettuce: Edible Energy Integration in Southeast Alaska” will feature the Southeast Island School District’s biomass-heated greenhouses.

Karen Petersen, biomass coordinator with Southeast Conference, will talk about how Alaska schools are tackling energy and food security using biomass boilers.

Southeast Island School District’s conversion to advanced wood heating provides a great case study for the future of biomass use and value-added use of waste heat. Along with converting to wood heat, the district is establishing greenhouses at each school and involving students in every aspect of growing food. Other Alaska school districts are copying the model.
