ACEP Interns Showcased at UA Foundation Board of Directors Meeting
Gwen Holdmann, Baxter Bond and Alana Vilagi presented at the University of Alaska
Foundation Board of Directors annual meeting last week in the BP Design Theater.
Holdmann presented on the ACEP Utility Student Internship Program and the recent ACEP
Microgrid Boot Camp, funded by the Office of Naval Research. The program is placing
a total of 10 interns with nine utilities and energy organizations around the state
this summer. This collaboration between industry and UA provides an opportunity to
equip the workforce of the future with field-relevant knowledge.
Bond and Vilagi presented on their experiences as student interns and their research
and development work in the creation of pump meters installed in Tanana and Fairbanks
homes. The units measure the amount of fuel being used by vented oil-fired heaters,
such as a Toyostove or Monitor. The information helps understand the heating needs
and habits of homeowners.
Board directors with the UA Foundation, the university’s fundraising arm, are prominent
Alaskans who volunteer their time. The UA president, two members of the UA Board of
Regents and the chancellors from each campus are ex-officio members.
