International Leadership Program Explores Alaska’s Energy Energy Expertise
UAF and ACEP are hosting northern Indigenous leaders and Canadian professionals in
Fairbanks, Anchorage and Kotzebue this week through the U.S. State Department’s prestigious
International Visitor Leadership Program.
The 10 IVLP participants will meet with professionals and policymakers in each of
three Alaska communities. The communities are exploring or implementing renewable
energy technologies that are environmentally and culturally appropriate for the Arctic
region. Technologies include wind, solar, biomass, thermal energy storage and more.
The U.S. Embassy in Ottawa selected ACEP as its local coordinating partner for the
International Visitor Leadership Program due to the center’s extensive resources and
expertise in the energy sector. Addressing energy security in the Arctic is an emergent
priority for the U.S. State Department.
