Solarize Anchorage Expands Neighborhood Range
The Solarize Anchorage program that began with the Airport Heights neighborhood in 2018 continues this season with four new neighborhoods. This year, the Anchorage neighborhoods of Rogers Park, Turnagain, South Addition and Spenard are participating in the program.
Solarize Anchorage is a partnership between the individual neighborhoods, the Alaska Center and ACEP. The goals are to lower the installed price of solar photovoltaics and remove barriers to their adoption. Each neighborhood selected a preferred installer, which then offered preferential pricing to that neighborhood. The installers in 2019 are Anchorage Solar, ABS Alaska and Arctic Solar Ventures.
In 2019, over 45 people have committed to installing solar PV on their homes through the program, with an overall installed capacity of 200 kilowatts and growing. New signups are continuing into the summer. People can visit the Solarize Anchorage web page to learn more at https://akcenter.org/climate-clean-energy/solarize-anchorage/.
