Chilean Engineer Joins ACEP as Summer Intern

Cristian Guaquin, a mechanical engineer for the Ministry of Energy in Chile, is working as an intern with the Pacific Marine Energy Center.

Guaquin will spend his summer learning about PEMC and ACEP’s experiences and research in hydrokinetic energy converters in Alaska and how they might be applied to other regions of the globe.

In an effort to gain more technical information on renewables in islanded microgrids, Guaquin applied to an international internship program funded by the Chilean government. He was one of 28 public and private employees in the country awarded funds to study abroad.

Guaquin was initially introduced to ACEP when he met its director, Gwen Holdmann, when she traveled to Patagonia in May 2018 to pursue opportunities for collaboration between ACEP and Chilean research organizations and project developers.
