Hydrokinetics Fisheries Video Recognized in UAF Award

ACEP, the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and the Igiugig Village Council have received the 2020 Get Outside Learnie Award.

The Learnies recognize excellence and elevate “awareness of quality teaching being done at the University of Alaska Fairbanks." The 2020 awards were presented online in a special production that celebrated excellent learning experiences by showcasing rich instructional media.

The collaborative video, “Hydrokinetic Energy Fisheries Research,” was filmed and edited by ACEP’s Amanda Byrd. In the video, CFOS faculty Andrew Seitz explains research on energy generated by in-river hydrokinetic devices and their interactions with salmon in the Kvichak River near Igiugig.

The McKinley Fire video, produced by the Alaska Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, Byrd and UAA's Jennifer Schmidt, was also a Learnies Award finalist.

“It is so exciting and wonderful to share the success of our collaborations between UAF colleges and institutes, UA campuses, and Alaska communities,” Byrd said.

The 2020 Learnie Awards were presented by UA Press and UAF’s Faculty Development Team, Faculty Senate, Staff Council and eCampus.
