Wilber Leads Beneficial and Equitable Electrification Initiative

The Beneficial and Equitable Electrification Initiative is a new project led by research engineer Michelle Wilber.

Beneficial electrification is a term for replacing direct fossil fuel use (e.g., propane, heating oil or gasoline) with electricity in a way that reduces overall emissions and energy costs. Examples include using wind energy to power vehicles or solar energy to heat homes.

The BEE initiative looks at the electrification of currently or previously non-electrified energy loads in Alaska, such as transportation and heating, in order to harness local, sustainable and cost-effective energy resources for all.
