Public Comment on Fort Wainwright Power Plant Upgrades Closes Feb. 22

Fort Wainwright officials are requesting public comments on proposals to replace or upgrade the post’s old coal-fired heat and power plant.

Public comments may be submitted up until Feb. 22 on the draft Environmental Impact Statement that describes ongoing problems with the 20-megawatt plant that’s been operating for 65 years. The 462-page document also outlines four proposed solutions to the problem, which range in cost from $117 million to $687 million.
