Speed-Dating Event Brings Young Alaskans Together with Community Service Leaders

The Conference of Young Alaskans was held in Fairbanks last week at the Westmark Hotel. The event drew 55 emerging leaders aged 16+ from communities around the state. They worked to address critical issues facing local governments.

The conference featured an “expert speed-dating event.” Fairbanksans familiar with municipal issues and community needs met with small groups of COYA delegates for four-minute sessions to learn about how various organizations relate to local governments.

Amanda Byrd represented the Alaska Center for Energy and Power.

The Alaska Municipal League hosted the conference. The annual event lets young leaders apply their knowledge and creativity to visions, goals and proposals for Alaska’s people.
