A Sneak Peek at the IPS Connect Conference

Still on the fence about attending the IPS Connect conference in Cordova?  Here are a few reasons why you should!

Electric Vehicles and Charging the Grid: Shawn Heurtevant, of Hitachi Energy, will speak about the cutting-edge vehicle-to-grid microgrid project in Arlington, Washington, with the Snohomish County Public Utility District that allows for two-way flow of power to both charge electric vehicles and tap the vehicle batteries as a source of power for the grid. 

Going Diesels Off: Bailley Gamble, of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, will look at how power plants in Alaska that are integrating renewables cope with the loss of heat recovery when going diesels-off.

Underground Cables: Peter Larsen, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will do a deep dive on the value for utilities of sub-surface transmission and distribution lines in building resiliency.

Microgrids and Wave Energy: Simon Van der Aa, specialist engineer with Hydro Tasmania, will talk about the King Island microgrid in Australia, which pairs flywheels, solar, wave energy and what was until recently the largest battery in Australia to power a 2.6-megawatt load serving 1,600 residents.

Cordova Energy Tours: In-person tours of Cordova’s microgrid, which includes the 6-MW Power Creek and 1.25-MW Humpback Creek run-of-river hydro and the Cordova battery energy storage system.
