Micronuclear Energy Draws Interest at AFN

Micronuclear energy is a emerging topic in Alaska, and interest in the potential for Alaska and in the technologies is growing. Earlier this month, ACEP research assistant professor, Dominique Pride, moderated a short panel discussion on micronuclear reactors at the 2022 Alaska Federation of Natives Convention in Anchorage.

The panelists included the Director of UAA’s Institute of Social and Economic Research and ACEP-affiliated researcher Diane Hirshberg, Mary Ann Pease with Westinghouse eVinci Alaska Business Development, and Vladimir Novak, chief commercial officer at Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation. The panel covered the technology, environmental concerns, and potential risks and benefits associated with micronuclear reactors.
